Location, Location, Location...
After getting sick of cars hogging lanes, indicating late, breaking suddenly, booting it in a straight line then slowing to walking pace around corners you will no doubt want somewhere to give it a little. The safest and most dangerous locations are often found in the same place. By 'safe' I refer to 'minimal police presence' and by dangerous I mean little or no room for error (at higher speeds).
To make life a little easier I've made this table for my three favourite locations.
Location |
Best time to ride (less traffic) |
Wildlife Dangers!! | Degree of difficulty |
Black Spur - Lake Mount. (my fave) |
6pm to 12am Beware, Wombats are out at this time. |
Wombats! - Rabbits | 7/10 |
Yarrambat - Hurstbridge -King Lake |
10am to 3pm Good time to avoid Roo's |
Kangaroos!! I know because I hit one... ouch! - Rabbits | 8/10 |
Dandenong's | Any time | Peacocks? Rabbits? - None that I've seen | 7.75/10 |
Please note this is Australia so if you're riding at night beware of nocturnal animals such as possums and domestic/wild cats.
